Insommnia

Apart from the fact I don't know how to spell it, I don't really have it fully, I just sleep less than other people, and seem to survive on 5/6 hours a night.

Don't really feel sleepy, but will try and got to bed now as i have to get up in 6 hours....

Anyone know why ppl get insomnia as a matter of interest?

(awaits with bated breath for answer)

Nite.

  1. As a fellow insomniac, I can suggest the following causes for insomnia: dodgy food, stress, illness, anxiety, irregular sleeping habits, depression, medication, overdoing it and also noisy neighbours.

  2. As a former sufferer, I can offer some suggestions, if you like. Keeping in mind that this is free advice, and it's probably true that 'you get what you pay for' here goes.
Don't put a TV or computer in your bedroom.
Bedrooms are for sleeping. Well, and um, (nervous giggle), .......... anyway. When it's time for sleep, leave the day behind. Don't think about tomorrow, today, yesterday, there isn't anything you can or should do about it now. Try to eat dinner at least 2-3 hours before you go to bed. Try to develop a routine that lets your mind a body know, now is time to sleep. This is more effective than people realize. For example, I go and shut the curtains, make sure the cat is fed, turn off all lights but my reading light (which can be turned out without getting up, very important) and read a book. Don't read anything for school or work, that will get you thinking about school or work. Don't read a newspaper or anything with bad news. Nothing suspenseful. Think of this as your mental junkfood hour. Humor works well. Frothy little love stories or anything set in a small town. Of course you don't have to read anything, but find a routine that works for you. Figure out what time you would like to go to bed. Then work backwards toward your goal in fifteen minute increments. For example, you are normally going to bed at 2AM, and you want to go to bed at say, 11:30PM, try going to bed at 1:45AM, then 1:30AM, and so on. When you find yourself sleeping 8 hours a night, you will be amazed at the difference. You will wake up naturally in the morning, not rudely shoved out of dreamland by a squawking alarm. It really makes a world of difference.

Um, ok, that was a freakishly long comment, full of completely unsolicited advice.
