Facebook Dillemma

I found myself debating in my own mind about a dilemma I had this morning.

One of my freinds on facebook invited me to join a group which basically is all about my place of work. I have decided to decline the invitation, because the last thing I want to do when I get home is talk about work again!!

Am I being mean?

Please advise, as I like to be flexible with people, but this idea really put me off!!

  1. yes you are being meen, but its ok coz we all do it.

Some of my young people have started askign about me on facebook and I have to say "im not allowed to add you!" even tho its me who has made up this rule.

at some point we need to escape work - even if that meens being meen.

  2. If you are going to talk about work in your leisure time ... you damn well better be in a pub with a pint.

I work on computers from 7am till 5pm ... the last thing I want to do is plop down in front of a keyboard when I get home.

  3. No, I don't think that you're being mean. I think you should just tell them that you don't want to talk about work in your free time. They should understand that!

  4. I don't think it's mean at all. If there's work stuff to talk about, it should be done at work, otherwise I'd expect to be compensated for my off-the-clock work related junk. (Of course, if I had any guts, I'd probably demand to be paid for the time it took me to get ready for work as well ... hee hee!)

But seriously. Just politely say you'd rather not. If they wonder why, you can tell them what you told us, and that you have plenty of better things to do with your off work time. If friends from work want to get together outside work, suggest a meal or something.
