Discussion.

"Ultimately, you cannot legislate against hatred any more than you can legislate that people should love one another, or should give to the poor. That is an issue of the heart, an issue bigger than the Juristiction of the Law, it's an issue of the human condition of sinfulness..."

  1. Yes, this is quite correct. You can prevent people from being overly nasty to each other, but hate is something that cannot be stopped. You can never control what people think, however hard you try. And that's why you shouldn't attempt to be overly controlling as to what people say to each other. This just leads to a situation where someone thinks that someone else is trying to control their thoughts. That in itself breeds more hate and resentment.

Yes, I am against being overly nasty with words...but to be overly nasty, one needs a tremendous amount of hate.

  3. You can force people by law to not "hate" in outward apperance but your'e right, it's a heart issue, and no one else can see what's going on in your own heart. I could hate someone my whole life and maybe no one else would ever know. Hate is not saying mean things or doing mean things to someone. It is to wish evil on someone. To hope bad things happen to them. This may lead to action, but there does not have to be action to have hate.

  4. Outlaw hate ... it failed to work in Kosovo. The Hutu and Tutsi tribes went to ground over it. Evil lives in man just as much as love.

That's where free will comes in, our greatest gift. To think that man could rescind that which God has wrought ...

  5. Legislation against hate doesn't mean people will stop doing it, but that the government can take actions to punish those who do it.

And the bible does prescribe to love: "And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul"(see Deuteronomy 6:5 onwards).

    So what's up with that?

  6. LOL, i was just thinkin , what does legislation mean , ty dj:), i think hate is to do with the carnal mind and the spiritual mind after all ...let me find the scrip.
Rom 8:7 because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the Law of God, neither indeed can it be.

what i mean is carnally our minds can think hatred but, knowing that we where made this way without the spiritual mind.

1Co 2:13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual

So with regards to hate, i think if it is the carnal mind would be easy to .......but with the spiritual mind (comparing spiritual with spiritual) God convicts us of thinking that cause we have him in us .

  7. I heard a great quote this week.

"There's a war in everyones heart between Love and hate.- Who wins? - the one you feed most!"

we cannot legislate against a feeling in peoples hearts but we can FEED love, by acting in a loving way to everyone we meet. Even those who seem to hate us. Isnt that what Paul meant when he said

    Rom 12
9Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"[a]says the Lord. 20On the contrary:
"If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."[b] 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

We cant overcome evil with law, but we can overcome evil with LOVE
